Amy Draznin, 20, is the daughter of Lin and Moe Draznin of Harper, Texas. She is one of three children, and has an older sister, Sarah, and a younger brother, Oren. Draznin will be attending Western Illinois University in the fall and will be a member of their livestock judging team. She plans on majoring in animal science.
Amy has shown pigs since she was in the fifth grade and has just completed her first year as an NJSA member. “I definitely plan on getting more involved with the NJSA this coming year,” Draznin says.
When she isn’t showing pigs, Amy enjoys going to the lake. Some of her major accomplishments include being an All-American Livestock Judger, and being name high individual in the livestock judging contest at the National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colo., this past year. Additionally, Amy is proud to have exhibited the Reserve Champion Duroc Barrow at the 2008 World Pork Expo Junior National, which is also her most memorable NJSA moment.
When asked what her favorite NJSA event is, Amy said she enjoys the World Pork Expo Junior National.
“Not only is it a lot of fun, it’s also in the summer so you don’t have to worry about school. Plus you get to meet fun and interesting people,” she says.
Amy’s future plans include finishing her degree at Western Illinois University and then either going on to get her master’s degree in swine production or getting a job selling ag pharmaceuticals.
“The best thing about being an NJSA member is the people you meet and contacts that you make,” Amy says.
We are proud to feature Amy as one of this month’s Youth Spotlights. We wish her luck in all of her future endeavors!
