Cody is the 20-year-old son of Rex and Lori Smith of Indianapolis, Ind. He is the older brother of Kendall Smith, who is also a NJSA member. Cody is entering his sophomore year at Purdue University, where he is studying secondary education.
Cody has been showing pigs for pigs for 17 years and has been involved in the NJSA ever since it started. He has shown at the National Junior Summer Spectacular (NJSS), World Pork Expo Junior National, Eastern Regional and Southeast Regional. He is an active exhibitor at all of the shows participating in all of the events offered at the show. Showmanship is his favorite event because it is based on the skills of the people showing. Cody's greatest achievement in the NJSA is winning the intermediate sweepstakes competition at the 2005 NJSS.
Besides showing pigs, Cody loves playing basketball and football. Cody would like to become a teacher, so he can also be a football coach. Not only does he love the game, but he also loves working with kids as well.
Cody said the NJSA is really cool, because you are able to meet a lot of people and make a lot of friends in the swine industry that you would not have normally met. You are able to meet great breeders who are willing to help you and teach you how to breed hogs.
Congratulations, Cody, on all of your success both in and out of the swine industry. We wish you the best in the future!
