The NJSA is pleased to honor Trey Fecke, 12, of Bonfield, Ill., as the September NJSA Youth Spotlight. He is the son of J.R. and Denise Fecke and is the oldest of two children. He has a brother named Cade who also shows pigs. Trey will be entering eighth grade this fall at Maturity BVM. When he is not in school, he enjoys playing basketball and, of course, showing pigs.
Trey has shown pigs for six years and has been involved with the NJSA for four of them. Since joining the NJSA, Trey has accomplished some great things. Not only did he win the Illinois State Fair in 2006, Fecke was recently named the junior division winner of the NJSA All-Around Sweepstakes Circuit at the National Junior Summer Spectacular in Louisville, Ky. To no surprise, that feat is his most memorable NJSA moment.
Even though NJSA offers a number of different competitions at their shows, Trey says his favorite one is the judging contest. “I like it because you can show your opinion on what you think of the hogs,” Fecke says.
When asked what the best thing about being an NJSA member is, he simply replied, “Meeting other people.”
Even though Trey is only in eighth grade, he already has plans for a great future. After graduating high school, Fecke hopes to attend college at the University of Illinois. However, in the meantime, he just wants to continue showing pigs.
Congratulations, Trey, on all of your accomplishments! We wish you luck in the future.
