2008 NJSA FOUNDATION FEMALE

STN8 Ms. Arsenal 2-1
(GG37 Arsenal 1-2 x STN5 Big Unit 58-10)
Farrowed on Jan. 15, 2008
Bred by Stein & Stewart Genetics, Mo.
Sold to Smith Seedstock, Mich., for $1,500

Stein and Stewart Genetics of Odessa, Mo., donated the superior Duroc female. She is a Jan. 15 daughter of GG37 Arsenal 1-2.

The NJSA developed the Foundation Female program to support scholarship awards for NJSA members. Each year, the NJSA board of directors searches for an outstanding Duroc, Hampshire, Landrace or Yorkshire female from an established purebred herd to be offered for sale. In addition to offering a solid foundation piece from a proven herd, the NJSA showcases a family that supports youth projects and creates opportunities for the future of our purebred industry.

The Stewart Duroc Farm dates back to the spring of 1942, when Doug Stewart’s grandpa purchased their first Duroc sow. It wasn’t until 1988 that Carl Stein joined the operation. Carl purchased a farm at Odessa, Mo., and from that day forward, Stein and Stewart Genetics have partnered in raising some of the best Duroc genetics available in the breed. They have tested their hogs extensively through the STAGES program, and numerous boars have been ranked as the top sires in the Duroc breed for both terminal and maternal traits. Their hogs have won at many NSR and NJSA events as well. They are also in great demand internationally, as they have sent hogs in recent years to 10 foreign countries around the globe. Stein and Stewart Genetics is a longtime supporter of youth programs and is proud to have donated this year’s NJSA Foundation Female.
