Bryson will be in fi fth grade this fall at Pleasant Plains Middle School. His parents, Michael and Amy, along with his brother Brandon, have been raising pigs for the past nine years. Bryson has been helping with the operation for the last four years, but has been showing for seven years. To achieve these honors Bryson and his family attended the Southwest Regional, Eastern Regional, Southeast Regional and the World Pork Expo. Bryson said, “I feel better showing pigs I raised because I know that I didn’t have to go out and buy them from someone and it makes winning feel that much better.” Congratulations, Bryson! Hampshire & Overall – Peyton Hill, Okla. Congratulations to Peyton Hill, 23, of Dustin, Okla., for being this year’s Hampshire Premier Breeder and Overall Premier Breeder winner. Peyton with her parents Willard and Kiesha Hill have been showing pigs for 14 years and raising them for 12. She attended the National Ju-nior Summer Spectacular, Southwest Regional, Eastern Regional and Western Regional with her bred-and-owned gilts to accumulate points to win these awards. Peyton is engaged to Justin Coyle and plans to attend the National Embryo Transfer School. Great work, Peyton! Landrace – Maddie Fugate, Ill. The 2018 Premier Landrace Breeder was awarded to Maddie Fugate, 19, of Mahomet, Ill. Maddie along with her parents, Eric and Julie Fugate, have been raising pigs for the past 16 years, and added Landrace sows to their operation about six years ago. Maddie said, “The Bred-and-Owned program allows me to feel a sense of pride in knowing that the animal I am showing was also born and raised on my farm. I imagine it’s similar to how parents would feel watching their child grow up and accomplish their goals.” Congratulations, Maddie!PREMIER BREEDERA special thank you to all the volunteers who helped with the NJSA booth and our contests.A special thank you to all the volunteers who helped with the NJSA booth and our contests.AUGUST 2018 | SEEDSTOCK EDGE6818 Aug SE Form.indd 687/26/2018 3:09:32 PMA special thank you to all the volunteers who helped with the NJSA booth and our contests.
