Ethan Stas is from Latrobe, Pennsylvania, and will be a junior at Pennsylvania State University, in the fall, where he is majoring in Animal Science with a Science option. After graduation Ethan hopes to attend veterinary school and specialize in swine. THE MASCHHOFFS SCHOLARSHIP – Melissa Keller, NY. Melissa Keller is from Corfu, N.Y. and will be a sophomore at The State University of New York at Cobleskill this fall. Me-lissa is receiving a degree in animal science and would like to work toward’s a master’s degree upon graduating. Her goal is to raise commercial swine in western New York and help to communicate with the general public about the swine industry. THE MASCHHOFFS SCHOLARSHIP – Megan Mench, Ind. Megan Mench is from Shirley, Ind., and will be a junior at Purdue University this fall where she will major in agricultural educa-tion. Megan hopes to one day work as an agricultural education instructor and continue to raise showpigs with her family. THE MASCHHOFFS, LLC PORK PRODUCTION SCHOLARSHIPMany members of The Maschhoff team were members of 4-H or FFA, including the company owners. Leaders within the company understand the value that programs like the NJSA give to our future industry leaders. The Maschhoffs got involved with the NJSA because they see an audience of youth with a common interest in the swine industry. Through NJSA the company has an avenue to interact with youth who have an interest in swine and, as part of that interaction, they hope to provide exposure to the opportunities that exist throughout the industry and within the company. JUNIOR HELPING JUNIORS SCHOLARSHIP Jaidyn Swartz, N.M. This year’s recipient of the TC Trailers Scholarship is Jaidyn Swartz from Springer, N.M. Jaidyn has been very involved in her school, community, and ag-ricultural events including National Honor Society, 4-H, and American Legion Auxiliary. Courtney has been very involved in 4-H, FFA and church groups in her community through-out the years, including livestock judging, children’s camp volunteer and a member of the Geor-gia Junior Swine Boosters. Her favorite part of showing livestock is competing in showmanship and seeing her hard work pay off. Hannah is currently a senior at Kansas State University; majoring in animal science and indus-try with a focus on meat science. Hannah recently completed her fi rst year on the NJSA Junior Board of Directors and has already been able to develop a great relationship with her NJSA protégés, as well as work to bring creative ideas to the committees she is a part of within the organization. Han-nah hopes to one day serve on the Youth Advisory Board to be able to guide and advise youth swine enthusiasts like so many people have done for her. Congratulations, Hannah on this achievement. NJSA VISIONARY LEADER SCHOLARSHIPGarrett See, N.C. This year’s winner of the Gregory D. Johnson Memorial Scholarship is Garrett See from Raleigh, N.C. Garrett received his bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State University and is currently complet-ing his master’s degree in animal breeding and genetics at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Gar-rett was a NJSA member for 11 years and had success both in and out of the show ring. To him, his greatest accomplishments were winning supreme champion gilt at the 2011 Eastern Regional and being named the fi fth overall Premier Yorkshire Breeder in 2015. Garrett truly believes that the swine industry helped him build the foundation for the person he is today and hopes to give back to the younger generation of showmen. Congratulations on all the hard work, Garrett. GREGORY D. JOHNSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPBrandon Stickler, Ill. This year’s winner of the American Yorkshire Club Scholarship is Brandon Stickler from Pleasant Plains, Ill. Brandon currently attends Lakeland Community College where he is involved in Collegiate Farm Bureau, Ag Transfer Club and the National Society of Leadership and Success. Previously, he was an active mem-ber of the local FFA chapter and currently serves on the Illinois Club Pig Association Board of Directors. Brandon began showing Yorkshires in 2007 and decided shortly after to start raising them as well. He has found great success within the breed including being named the NJSA Premier Yorkshire Breeder in 2014, 2015 & 2016. He hopes to continue to be a mentor within the industry and teach young people the values of hard work, honesty and passion.
