Pigs and kids have been filing into the swine barn all day in preparation for the 2010 World Pork Expo Junior Classic, here in Des Moines, Iowa. More than 1,700 pigs have been registered by approximately 650 members of the National Junior Swine Association and Team Purebred. The young exhibitors come from 26 states, as well as seven foreign countries, and will show barrows and gilts starting Wednesday, June 9.
Alan Duttlinger, director of junior activities for the National Swine Registry, says this is a record number of entries for the World Pork Expo Junior National. “Last year this show had a record number of entries, and this year we are 22 percent higher,” says Duttlinger. “It’s great to see the kids so excited, and ready to put their months of hard work and preparation on display.”
