NSR Chief Executive Officer

Function:            

  • To implement the strategic goals and objectives of the National Swine Registry as determined by the NSR Executive Committee.
  • To give direction and leadership toward the achievement of the National Swine Registry’s mission, strategy, and goals by assembling highly qualified and motivated staff members.
  • To provide the fiscal management and financial planning necessary for the success of the NSR

Major functions/accountabilities:

  1. NSR Executive Committee and breed board communication and support:
    Provides communication and support between the boards of directors and the staff and membership of NSR. Includes coordination of board meetings and the orchestration of vision casting opportunities for the NSR Executive Committee as well as the various breed boards.
  2. Program and member service delivery:
    Oversees design, marketing, promotion, delivery and quality of programs and services offered to the NSR and NJSA members.
  3. Financial planning and forecasting:
    Recommends yearly budget for Executive Committee approval and prudently manages registry's resources within those budget guidelines. Also reports monthly to the board of directors regarding financial activities
  4. Human resources management:
    Effectively manages the human resources of the registry according to authorized personnel policies and procedures that fully conform to current laws and regulations.
  5. Industry and public relations:
    Assures the organization and its mission, programs, and services are consistently presented in strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders and industry associations.

Credentials and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in animal science, ag business and/or marketing, or closely-related major, or four years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstration of organizational leadership ability and fiscal management expertise

Other:

  • Reports to National Swine Registry Executive Committee
  • Position is based out of the NSR headquarters in West Lafayette, Ind.
  • Successful candidate will assume CEO duties in a reasonable time.

Director of Education and Outreach

Position Summary: The Director of Education and Outreach works cross-functionally with the Director of Development and the Director of Jr. Shows and reports to the Vice President of Operations. This position is responsible for, but not limited to, development of educational resources and outreach activities that closely align with NSR’s Long Range Strategic Plan, coordinating national and regional leadership conferences, and promotion of the organization to industry stakeholders and consumers.  This position will support the efforts of the Events and Education Department. 

Location: NSR Office, West Lafayette, Ind.

  • Willingness and ability to travel for shows and other events
  • Willingness to work overtime and weekends for shows and events

  • Bachelor’s degree in agricultural education, agricultural communications or related field

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Ability to develop quality educational content and programs for diverse audiences
  • Team player who can organize and facilitate outreach events and programs
  • Superior people relationship skills, including both youth and adults
  • Strong appreciation of the livestock industry and livestock shows
  • Willingness to fully commit to the strategic vision of the organization as a whole and identify an individual role in facilitating that vision

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing and enhancing NSR educational experiences including:
    •  National and Regional Leadership Conferences
    •  Educational Contests at NJSA Shows
      • Judging Contests, Skillathon, Extemporaneous Speech, Prepared Speech, etc.
    • Premier Breeder Program
    • Video content development an relationship management with content specialists
    • NJSA Booth and Merchandise
    • Junior Board Retreat
  • Will develop curriculum to be utilized for facilitating educational presentations and programs about the NSR, NJSA, Foundation, and other industry related topics
  • Coordinate the Mentoring Values People (MVP) and Youth Spotlight Programs
    • Match mentors and protégés; plan MVP events at each NJSA show
  • Oversee and manage summer Event and Education Department Intern
  • Aid with other Events and Education Department programs

NORTHWEST REGION FIELD REPRESENTATIVE

Position Summary: The Northwest Region Field Representative works cross-functionally with the Eastern Region and Southwest Region Field Representatives along with working closely and collaborating with the Events and Education, Marketing and Communications and Pedigree Departments. This position reports to the Vice President of Operations. The candidate selected is responsible for, but not limited to, the service of the membership of the National Swine Registry and National Junior Swine Association (NJSA) in the Northwest portion of the United States through genetic consultation and selection, education about the NSR and its programs, and the general promotion of U.S. Duroc, Hampshire, Landrace, and Yorkshire breeds and their breeders to the collective swine industry. 

Location: Selected candidate must be located within the designated territory, preferably, Illinois, Iowa, or Wisconsin. 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Self-motivated, hardworking and organized

  • Willingness and ability to travel for shows and other events
  • Willingness to work overtime and weekends for shows and events
  • Able to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Bachelor’s degree in agricultural education, agricultural communications or related field

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in animal science and background in purebred swine industry is preferred but not required
  • Qualified candidates must have a valid driver’s license
  • Superior communication skills
  • An attitude of collaboration and strong work ethic.
  • Willingness to take on extensive travel responsibilities
  • Excellent time management skills with ability to handle scheduling logistics on a daily basis
  • Extreme attention to detail and organization
  • Passion for youth development and ability to successfully work with NJSA members and staff
  • Ability to work effectively with both NSR members and staff
  • Strong comfort zone in swine evaluation & selection
  • Willingness to fully commit to the strategic vision of the organization as a whole and identify an individual role in facilitating that vision
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to utilize NSR social media and blog platforms

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver and implement services and programs of the NSR and NJSA
  • Encourage the registration of purebred Duroc, Hampshire, Landrace and Yorkshire swine by the NSR/NJSA membership, stressing the importance of purity and ancestry
  • Assist breeders in the areas of management, selection, genetic improvement and marketing/advertising
  • Assist NSR staff members in the organization and implementation of NSR and NJSA shows and events
  • Provide sales and marketing support for breeders utilizing the NSR live and online sales service
  • Represent the NSR/NJSA at regional, state and national events, and be responsible for the enforcement of breed eligibility requirements and the implementation of other NSR/NJSA policies at these events
  • Encourage involvement of youth in the swine industry through participation at various NJSA events and activities, as well as working with county and state youth organizations
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with various segments of the industry, including Extension, University Specialists, Shows and Fairs, Pork Producer Associations and allied industry
  • Contribute content for the NSR publication, Seedstock EDGE, including ad sales, sales reports from NSR events and various editorial content
  • Promote subscriptions to and the marketing advantages of the Seedstock EDGE Media
  • Maintain and submit in a timely manner mileage and expense reports
  • Oversee and provide mentorship of summer intern
  • Aid other NSR staff in other duties as needed
