Events & Education Internship

SERVE AND HELP DEVELOP YOUTH WHO ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT THE SWINE INDUSTRY.

Description:Do you love the purebred swine industry? Have a passion for working with youth? Enjoy facilitating programs and planning events? Then, the Events & Education Internship is meant for you! The Events and Education Internship will provide experience in planning and executing shows and events of the NJSA, the nation’s largest youth livestock organization. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to assist Events & Education staff with planning The Exposition Junior Show and the National Junior Summer Spectacular, as well as help lead the NJSA Junior Board of Directors and write Youth Spotlight highlights. This internship provides experience in event planning, communications, education, outreach and livestock show production.

Job Requirements: Required travel and show attendance includes The Exposition and the Summer Type Conference and National Junior Summer Spectacular. A valid driver's license is required.

Qualifications: Applicants should be college-age students majoring in animal science, agricultural business, agricultural education or other related fields of study. Applicants should be hardworking and self motivated, detail oriented, innovative and work well with the general public and youth. Applicants should have a strong working knowledge of all Microsoft Office programs.

Field Staff Internship

PROVIDE A LINK BETWEEN SWINE BREEDERS, MEMBERS AND THE NSR STAFF. 

Description: A terrific opportunity to learn about purebred swine operations and pedigreed show facilitation while developing contacts within the swine industry!

The NSR Field Staff Internship provides on-the-road experience traveling the country with full-time NSR Field Representatives, and opportunities to both learn from and contribute to field activities. Responsibilities include visiting purebred swine farms and AI boar studs; assisting at NSR-sponsored events including The Exposition, NSR Summer Type Conference, assisting at state fairs across the Midwest; and other field staff duties as assigned.

Marketing & Communications Internship

COMMUNICATE INFORMATION AND PROMOTE IDEAS TO NSR MEMBERS AND THE PUBLIC.

Description: A great opportunity to spend the summer working in the purebred swine industry, while learning new skills and expanding your marketing and communications portfolio!

The NSR Marketing & Communications Internship provides the opportunity to work with the M&C team to customize an internship program that will focus on the skills needed to build an individual’s professional portfolio. These opportunities include feature writing for Seedstock EDGE, advertisement design and page layout, magazine production, online content development, photography, social media management, live show coverage and more!

*Several projects such as show reports and feature stories are required for all interns.

EVENTS AND EDUCATION MANAGER

Position Summary: The Director of Events and Educations reports to the Vice President of Operations. This role is responsible for, but not limited to, operation of junior shows, development of educational resources and outreach activities, and coordinating national leadership conferences for the National Junior Swine Association (NJSA). This position will support the efforts of the National Swine Registry and work closely with the Marketing and Communications Department, as well as the Field Staff.

Location: NSR Office, West Lafayette, Ind

    • Premier Breeder Program
    • NJSA Booth and Merchandise
  • Oversee the Junior Board
    • Coordinate Junior Board Retreat
    • Coordinates Travel
    • Plans logistics and responsibilities at shows
  • Other responsibilities
    • Work with NSR V.P. of Operations to secure NJSA Sponsorship
    • Coordinate the Mentoring Values People (MVP) and Youth Spotlight Programs
    • Oversee and manage summer Events and Education Department Intern
    • Manage NJSA membership list and information
    • Work with NSR V.P. of Operations to manage budgets and financials
    • Collaborate on strategic initiatives with Marketing and Communications staff.

MEMBER RELATIONSHIP MANAGER

Position Summary: The Member Relationship Manager (MRM) reports to the Vice President of Operations. This role is a representative of the National Swine Registry (NSR) and its entities and initiatives. This role serves as a liaison between the organization, it’s membership, users of purebred swine genetics, industry partners, stakeholders, and academia. This position will work closely with the Marketing and Communications Department, Events and Education Department, and the Field Staff.

Responsibilites:

  • Deliver and implement services and programs of the NSR and NJSA
  • Encourage the registration of purebred Duroc, Hampshire, Landrace and Yorkshire swine by the NSR/NJSA membership, stressing the importance of breed integrity and ancestry
  • Assist breeders in the areas of management, selection, genetic improvement, and marketing/advertising
  • Assist NSR staff members in the organization and implementation of NSR and NJSA shows and events
  • Provide sales and marketing support for breeders utilizing the NSR live and online sales service
  • Represent the NSR/NJSA at regional, state, and national events, and be responsible for the enforcement of breed eligibility requirements and the implementation of other NSR/NJSA policies at these events
  • Encourage involvement of youth in the swine industry through participation at various NJSA events and activities, as well as working with county and state youth organizations
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with various segments of the industry, including Extension, University Specialists, Shows and Fairs, Pork Producer Associations, and allied industry
  • Contribute content for the NSR publication, Seedstock EDGE, including sales reports from NSR events and editorial
  • Promote subscriptions to and the marketing advantages of Seedstock EDGE Media
  • Oversee and provide mentorship of summer intern
  • Aid other NSR staff in other duties as needed
