Events & Education Internship

Serve and help develop youth that are passionate about the swine industry.

Description: Do you love the purebred swine industry? Have a passion for working with youth? Enjoy facilitating programs and planning events? Then, the Events & Education Internship is meant for you!

The Events & Education Internship will provide experience in planning and executing shows and events of NJSA, the nation’s largest youth livestock organization. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to assist Events & Education staff with planning the World Pork Expo Junior National and the National Junior Summer Spectacular, as well as help lead the NJSA Board of Directors, write Youth Spotlight highlights and facilitate web updates. This internship provides experience in event planning, communications, education, outreach and livestock show production.

  • Full-time position
  • Mid- to late-May through August
  • Applications due Oct. 1 each year
  • Weekly stipend, travel expenses covered

Job Requirements: Some travel will be required, including to the World Pork Expo in Des Moines, Iowa, and the National Junior Summer Spectacular in Louisville, Kentucky. A valid driver's license is required.

Qualifications: Applicants should be college-age students majoring in animal science, agricultural business, agricultural education or other related fields of study. Applicants should be hardworking and self-motivated, detail-oriented, innovative and work well with the general public and youth. Applicants should have a strong working knowledge of all Microsoft Office programs.

Field Staff Internship

Provide a link between swine breeders, members and the NSR staff. 

Description: A terrific opportunity to learn about purebred swine operations and pedigreed show facilitation while developing contacts within the swine industry!

The NSR Field Staff Internship provides on-the-road experience traveling the country with full-time NSR Field Representatives, and opportunities to both learn from and contribute to field activities. Responsibilities include visiting purebred swine farms and AI boar studs; assisting at NSR-sponsored events including the World Pork Expo in Des Moines, Iowa, and the NSR Summer Type Conference in Louisville, Kentucky; assisting at state fairs across the Midwest; and other field staff duties as assigned.

Job Requirements: Extensive travel is part of this job, and a valid driver's license is required.

Qualifications: Applicants should be college-age students majoring in animal science and/or a related field of study, with a strong interest in a swine industry career. Must be hard working and excel in time management and organization, as well as have strong interpersonal and networking skills and a professional demeanor. Additionally, candidates must have experience and skill evaluating swine.

Marketing & Communications Internship

Communicate information and promote ideas to NSR members and the public.

Description: A great opportunity to spend the summer working in the purebred swine industry, while learning new skills and expanding your marketing and communications portfolio!

The NSR Marketing & Communications Internship provides the opportunity to work with the M&C team to customize an internship program that will focus on the skills needed to build an individual’s professional portfolio. These opportunities include feature writing for Seedstock EDGE, advertisement design and page layout, magazine production, online content development, photography, social media development, live show coverage and more!

Creative Design Coordinator

Position Summary: The Creative Design Coordinator closely works collaboratively with the Social Media Coordinator within the Marketing and Communications department, but will be responsible for creative print and digital design across the organization. This role reports to the Director of Marketing & Communications.  The Creative Design Coordinator is responsible for, but not limited to, ideation and creative design related to Seedstock EDGE Media, including layout and design, video editing, marketing campaigns, and general design work.

Location: NSR Office, West Lafayette, Ind. 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or another related field or relevant experience.
  • Competent and comfortable with Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and video editing and production.
  • “Self-starter” and goal driven to develop needed materials
  • Creative thinker and fresh ideation
  • Deadline driven- with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Extreme attention to detail
  • Organized and exhibit “follow through” on tasks and goals
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Agriculture and/or livestock background is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee, create and implement creative design related to Seedstock EDGE Media advertising, design and layout
  • Advance and create video platform through editing and production to enhance NSR’s presence in digital space
  • Provide direction and guidance and strategic branding and marketing of NSR services
  • Assist NSR members and stakeholders in creative design and marketing options
  • Develop strong relationships and resources with breeders, sponsors, and other stakeholders to assist with design and editing
  • Commit and take ownership in NSR Long Range Strategic Plan and mission
  • Aid with other Marketing and Communication Department programs

PEDIGREE DEPARTMENT

Position Summary: The National Swine Registry (NSR) is currently seeking candidates for a position in the pedigree department.

Location: NSR Office, West Lafayette, Ind. 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree in Animal Science, Ag Education or Ag Business
  • Background in the swine industry is preferred, but not required
  • Excel in communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs such as Excel and Word

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Receptionist
  • Registration and transfer service of purebred swine
  • Answer incoming phone calls and emails
  • Member customer service
  • Mailing of supplies
