Updates from Tulsa State Fair

By NSR | Published October 4, 2012

Champion Drive Results – Tulsa Jr Barrow Show

Grand Barrow – Whitney Jung – Sterling, Ok. – Hamp

Reserve – Hunter McKinnon – Lone Grove, Ok. – York

Congratulations to all the exhibitors at the Tulsa State Fair Market Hog Show.  The Grand came out of the Hampshire division.  Shown by Whitney Jung, this Hampshire-marked  barrow was sired by Mile High at Flash Farms and the barrow was raised by Flash Farms and Cooper Livestock.

The Reserve Grand Barrow was shown by Hunter McKinnon of Lone Grove and was previously named the Champion Yorkshire Barrow.  Hunter’s barrow was a Purebred Yorkshire Barrow raised by Dr. Mike Tripp and sired by Snowplow (Hi Point Genetics).

Look for results from the pedigreed gilt show starting tomorrow evening.  I will try to post sale animals from the Duroc, York and Hampshire breeds as soon as each breed is completed.  If you have any questions pertaining to any of these females, please give me a call.  The Tulsa State Fair will be selling 35 head of purebred and crossbred females this Saturday evening, 45 minutes after the completion of the show.

Call if you have any questions.  Brian Anderson 620-515-3348.

Also want to congratulate Rick Maloney on his award Thursday evening as one of the friends and true supporters of the Tulsa State Fair Livestock Show.  Congrats Rick, well deserved.
DAY 1
Beautiful weather and a good turnout of purebred classifying hogs highlighted Day 1 of the market hog show in Tulsa.  Brandon Anderson from Haskell, Texas, is serving as the judge and doing a very fine and professional job.  While this show is not a pedigreed show on the market hog side, I tried to gather as much info as I could on the barrows as they were placed in the sale offering for the NSR breeds.

DUROCS
Champion Duroc – Shianna Scifres, Roff, Okla.
This barrow was a Extraordinary (Lean Value Sires) x Triple Rock and was bred by Palmer Show Team.

Reserve Duroc – Ty Goss, Seminole, Okla.
This  barrow was a Big Bucks(Shaffer Gold Rush) x Hipp and bred by David Martin, Iowa.

The 3rd, 4th and 5th Overall Durocs were bred by Vickrey, Brooks and Mappes and all sired by Crown Royal.  The 5th Overall Duroc sale barrow was a littermate to the Mappes Hog College Duroc Boar that also won the Home Run College Drive at the National Barrow Show.

YORKS
Champion York – Hunter McKinnon, Lone Grove, Okla.
This barrow was a Snow Plow x Duelms Color Blind who was purchased from Chuck Olsen.  This barrow was bred by Dr. Mike Tripp.

Reserve York – Delainna Beard, Canadian County 4-H.
This barrow was bred by Cobb and was a Bear on True Grit’s momma.

Interesting information is that the Champion Duroc and York barrow are true pures and have littermate boars on feed by Palmer and Tripp that will be at Duncan.

DAY 2

Day 2 of Tulsa is here! Be sure to check back for more updates, and a final rundown of the Tulsa State Fair Barrow Show! As a reminder, since Tulsa is a “classifying show,” some of the barrows recognized for honors in the breed shows may or may not be pedigreed.

HAMPSHIRES
Champion Hampshire – Whitney Jung, Sterling FFA
This barrow was sired by Mile High at Flash Farms and the barrow was raised by Flash Farms and Cooper Livestock.
Reserve Hampshire – Ty Goss, Seminole, Okla.
Ty’s barrow was sired by Super Monster at Cutting Edge Sires and raised by Larry Moore.
