Meet the Staff
Cassie Godwin, Marketing & Communications Manager
How many years have you worked for the NSR?
I have been with the NSR for four years.
What is your favorite aspect of your role with the NSR?
I love how each day is different. I am a routine person and while I do keep a general routine of how my day is structured, the tasks that I focus on each day differ from one day to the next. I also enjoy how I get to really stretch my wings and use my existing skills, as well as learn new techniques to help me best serve the NSR membership. Clay, Ellen and the organization have really let me make this position my own and try new things.
What is one thing you wish members knew about your job?
One thing I wish members knew about my role is how much the Marketing and Communications Department juggles. Some people think DeShea and I only do the magazine, or that we only go to shows. The reality is that we manage all internal and external communications. While we are at shows, we are also working on the Seedstock EDGE magazine. While we are in the middle of a magazine, we are also prepping for shows. All the while we are managing day-to-day tasks, social media and assisting membership with their marketing needs. DeShea and I love what we do at the NSR and work really hard to serve its members the best way possible. The same can also be said for the rest of the NSR staff.
What is your favorite NSR memory?
I have so many fond memories! One of my favorite things to experience is the atmosphere during a NJSA Champion Overall Drive, especially at The Exposition or National Junior Summer Spectacular. Getting to be involved in that process is so rewarding. I always get goosebumps and have so much pride for everyone of those kids.
I also really thrive on the intense moments that require crisis communications. My favorite course in graduate school was crisis communications. Obviously, I don’t ever wish for crises to occur, but naturally they do. There have been several times throughout my four years with the NSR that big changes have taken place, and that information needed to be communicated quickly. I love getting to buckle down, establish a plan, create statements, work with DeShea on graphics and effectively communicate information to membership in an efficient manner. I am always so proud of how the entire NSR staff works together and does what it takes to best serve our membership.
What was your involvement in the swine industry before your time with the NSR?
I showed pigs for two years at the county and state level. I judged livestock in college and interned with Texas Pork Producers Association.
Where did you go to college and what was your major?
I received an associate degree from Connors State College. I graduated from Texas Tech University in May 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Communications and a Minor in Animal Science. I then graduated from Texas Tech University in December 2016 with a Master of Science in Agricultural Education.
What do you enjoy doing outside of the office?
I enjoy being with family and friends, cooking, decorating, and spending time outside and on the farm.
Where is your favorite place to visit or where is your dream vacation?
I have been to Lake Tahoe and Savannah, Georgia, and I would visit those places 100 times more! My dream vacation would be to go to Italy.
If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life what would it be?
Pasta and bread- I am a big fan of carbs.
What is a fun fact about yourself?
I absolutely love organization! I thrive on focusing on a space, cleaning it out and organizing it perfectly. My coworkers and the NJSA Junior Board always laugh because I keep the M&C table at shows perfectly in order.
