Meet the Staff
Whitney Webb, DNA Secretary
What is your favorite aspect of your role with the NSR?
I enjoy the people I work with, both within the office and our members. Also, I enjoy that there are constantly challenges with my position. There are always new things to learn and I am not necessarily doing the same thing every day.
What is one thing you wish members knew about your job?
In order for DNA testing and results that we receive are accurate and have passed quality control with our laboratory, there is a series of steps that the samples have to go through, which unfortunately, takes more time than we all would like. It is very important to plan ahead when it comes to submitting DNA samples to allow for the normal 6-8 turnaround time.
What is your favorite NSR memory?
I consider myself fortunate to have gotten to make many memories and friends with so many people connected to the NSR over the last decade. I’ve gotten to know and work closely with people who I idolized as I was showing pigs when I was younger, whether they are current or former NSR employees, or NSR members. All of these people have taught me so much and helped me grow as an employee and a person.
What was your involvement in the swine industry before your time with the NSR?
My family and I spent our summers together showing pigs all over Indiana and also at a few NJSA shows. We raised and sold Showpigs as well.
Please list your spouse and children (fur children included).
My husband, Brian, and our son, Brice. We also have a dog named Sheldon.
Where did you go to college and what was your major?
I received my associate’s degree from Black Hawk East where I majored in Agriculture Transfer. I then received my bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois University in Ag Business.
What do you enjoy doing outside of the office?
I enjoy spending time outside, spending time with my nieces, sewing/embroidery, and going to the lake with my husband.
Where is your favorite place to visit or where is your dream vacation?
My dream vacation is Hawaii; my husband and I went there for our honeymoon and we would go back every year if we could.
If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life what would it be?
Ice cream!
What is a fun fact about yourself?
A fun fact about myself is the way I met my husband was through another NSR employee. One day, Robin Lucas, who was the Pedigree Department manager, asked me if she could set me up with her neighbor. I decided to give it a try. We got married a few years later.
