2016 NJSS Superhero & Showpigs Schedule of Events

MVP Celebration- Tuesday, July 5, 3 p.m.
Meet at Ring A on Tuesday afternoon to participate in this year’s
MVP Event! This is an opportunity for new mentors and protégés
to be acquainted with the program, as well as returning mentors
and protégés to reunite with their partner – don’t miss it, and wear a superhero costume! Also, after the MVP party, mentors
and their protégés are invited to compete together in the Barnyard Olympics competition!

Barnyard Olympics- Tuesday, July 5, 4:30 p.m.
Come compete in barnyard games to have fun, win prizes and make
new friends! Come with a pre-made team from your state, or come
by yourself. We will place you on a team to meet new people! Dress
patriotic with team pride, and wear old, comfortable clothes or dress like your favorite superhero!

Corn Toss Tournament- Tuesday, July 5, 6 p.m.
The Corn Toss Tournament will be held again, this year. Sign your team up
between 5:45-6 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, at Ring B. The tournament will start at
6 p.m. and will be a single-elimination tournament. The cost is $3 per team,
and the winning team wins the entire pot, as well as bragging rights for the
week! Youth, parents and friends of all ages are welcome to compete!

PQA Training- Wednesday, July 6, Youth 10:30-11:30 a.m.; Adults 8-9:30 a.m.
All exhibitors at any NJSA event MUST be PQA Plus certified. Youth ages
8-17 years old that are not certified must attend the Youth PQA Plus training
session on Wednesday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in Ring A. Youth ages 18-21
years old and parents of youth ages 7 years old and under that are not certified
must attend the Adult PQA Plus training session on Wednesday from
8-9:30 a.m. in Ring A. Any youth not PQA Plus certified prior to the National
Junior Summer Spectacular that do not attend a training session to become
certified at the event will not be allowed to exhibit their hogs. Anyone is
welcome to attend the training sessions to become certified free of charge,
and no pre-registration is necessary!

Food Drive Contest- Friday, July 8, 1 p.m.
Compete to earn your state the supreme title over all others in attendance,
while helping those in need at the same time! All non-perishable canned or
boxed foods are welcome. Most needed items include: peanut butter, saltine
crackers, pork and beans, boxed cereals, canned vegetables, hearty canned
soup, canned fruit juice, canned spaghetti sauce, rice and spaghetti, canned
fruit and canned meats. Please avoid glass containers. Members can purchase
items in advance and bring them to the show, as well as collect food once in
Louisville at the NJSS. Items should be placed in the designated state box for
the food drive and must be in place by Friday at 1 p.m. to be counted. The
state with the greatest number of items will be announced at the awards ceremony
and receive a traveling plaque, along with certificates for participating
members of the winning state. All collected food will be donated to the Dare to
Care Food Bank of Louisville, Kentucky.

Inspirational Service with Ray Perryman- Friday July 8, 5 p.m.
Get ready for an uplifting message at the National
Junior Summer Spectacular! Ray Perryman of Short
Round Ministries travels throughout the country sharing
important messages with youth livestock exhibitors. Ray
will be traveling from Shallowater, Texas, to visit with
participants at the National Junior Summer Spectacular.

Pizza Party- Friday, July 8, 5 p.m.
Join in the Exhibitor Pizza
Party in Newmarket Hall

NJSA Awards Ceremony- Friday, July 8, following Ray Perryman
At the culmination of the National Junior Summer
Spectacular (NJSS) week, we will announce the winners
and present the awards for all NJSS contests, NJSA Premier
Breeders and NJSA sponsors. We will also view a fun
slideshow highlighting the NJSS week, as well as all
of the NJSA events and activities throughout the past
year! Then, we will announce the 2016-2017 NJSA Junior
Board and thank the retiring junior board members for
their two years of service and contribution to the NJSA.
The awards ceremony will be held in Newmarket Hall

Kingdom shares the grounds with the Exposition Center
making it easy to stop in and have fun with your family!

KFC YUM! CENTER

Go downtown to check out the KFC Yum! Center! The Yum! Center
hosts many concerts and is a large, multi-purpose sports arena.
This is the home of the Louisville Cardinals Men’s Basketball team.

LOUISVILLE SLUGGER MUSEUM

Check out the Louisville Slugger Museum, which is located
in Louisville’s “Museum Row” in the West Main District
of downtown. It showcases the history of the Louisville
Slugger brand of baseball bats made by Hillerich & Bradsby,
and baseball in general. This building also serves as their
corporate headquarters and a production facility.

If you have some extra time be sure to stop in at Churchill
Downs, a Thoroughbred racetrack most famous for hosting
the Kentucky Derby. It officially opened in 1875, when it
first hosted the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks.

Louisville Waterfront Park is a 72-acre municipal park adjacent
to the downtown area and the Ohio River. Following the
Awards Ceremony on Friday evening, you can come here
to watch the fireworks! You can also see the fireworks
as you are driving over the bridge to head North!
