Top Things to do in Louisville

By: Jessica Harsh

In the livestock world, Louisville, Ky., is known for those ever-popular green shavings. There is nothing better than driving your hog on those green shavings. In addition to showing, we all love going to the show and spending time with people from all across the country we typically only see at shows. Outside of the show, Louisville has a lot to offer for entertainment. Check out these top things to do and places to see while you are in town for NJSS and STC.

Louisville Mega Caverns (zip line in an underground cave)

The Louisville Mega Caverns are a fun adventure for the kids and adults! Voted as the No. 1 thing to do in Louisville, according to Trip Advisor, you will not want to miss this experience. Zip line through the caverns and experience Earth underground. You can find the caverns at 1841 Taylor Avenue, Louisville, KY 40213, approximately a ten-minute drive from the fairgrounds.

Churchill Downs

When you think of Louisville in May, you probably think of this next recommendation to check out. Churchill Downs is home of the Kentucky Derby and a great attraction if you love horses as much as you do hogs. While the Derby is always the first Saturday in May, there is still a lot to see while you are at Churchill Downs. You can visit at 700 Central Ave, Louisville, KY 40208.

Derby Museum

You can cross two things off your Louisville bucket list in one spot! The Derby Museum is located at Churchill Downs. You can learn more about the history of the Derby and the horses that have won this leg of the Triple Crown. Derby Museum is located at 704 Central Ave, Louisville, KY 40208, another ten minute drive from the fairgrounds.

Muhammad Ali Center

Visit the iconic boxer’s memorial museum. Not only is he known as a legendary boxer,  but also for his  inspirational quotes. “The mission of the Muhammad Ali Center is to preserve and share the legacy and ideals of Muhammad Ali, to promote respect, hope, and understanding, and to inspire adults and children everywhere to be as great as they can be.” The museum is located at 144 N 6th St, Louisville, KY 40202. It is about a 15 to 20 minute drive north of the fairgrounds.

You can find the museum at 800 W Main St, Louisville, KY 40202, which is 15 minutes from the fairgrounds.

Louisville Bats game if in town (Minor League Baseball)

To follow going to the slugger museum, if you want to see the bats in action, head over to a Louisville Bats game if they are in town. Fortunately, it looks like they will be! The Bats are a minor-league baseball team. To see if they are in town when you are there, check out their website below. You can make it to a game by typing the following address into your GPS system: 401 E Main St, Louisville, KY 40202.

It is about a ten minute drive from the fairgrounds.

Kentucky Kingdom

If the zoo didn’t provide enough thrill, head on over across the parking lot to Kentucky Kingdom for a roller coaster ride. Kentucky Kingdom is conveniently located a stone’s throw away from the barns. There are rides for all ages and sure to be a good time. If the heat gets to you, you can also visit Hurricane Bay, the water park, to cool down before heading back for chores.
