Meet the Staff
Jessica Jordan, Hampshire & Landrace Secretary
What is your favorite aspect of your role with the NSR?
My favorite aspect of the role is being able to truly pursue my passion. This role allows me to meet a variety of breeders and really learn the pedigree for each animal.
What is one thing that makes you excited about your job?
Something that makes me excited about being the Hampshire & Landrace Secretary is the opportunities I will have to travel to shows and being able to meet the families and exhibitors!
What was your involvement in the swine industry before your time with the NSR?
I got involved with 4-H when I was 15 years old and that’s when it all started. I chose to do swine because my dad grew up showing hogs. My favorite hog that we had was a Hampshire gilt but I also raised Spots and Chesters. My little brother loved to show his Durocs, Yorkshires and so many more.
Once we began raising our own hogs, I became heavily involved in the breeding and farrowing aspect. I was able to artificially inseminate a few of our hogs which led to my favorite season: farrowing season. During farrow season, I oversaw ear notching, administrating vaccines, clipping teeth and even hand pulling the babies when needed.
Please list your spouse and children (fur children included).
Fur child: Stella Mae also known as Mae Mae
Where did you go to college and what was your major?
I graduated from Purdue University in May of 2021, receiving my bachelor’s degree. While I was at Purdue, I majored in Agricultural Communications. Boiler Up!
What do you enjoy doing outside of the office?
When I am not in the office, I like to spend as much time as possible with friends and family. I also enjoy the endless amount of Stella snuggles when I am home!
Where is your favorite place to visit or where is your dream vacation?
My dream vacation is to go to Greece. I really want to live out Mamma Mia!
If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
100% Chips and Salsa (basic I know)
What is a fun fact about yourself?
I advocate for suicide prevention and awareness to help other siblings who may have also lost a brother or sister. I also help my parents run a memorial scholarship in my little brother’s, Dylan, name.
