WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The largest junior pedigreed barrow and gilt show in the world, the World Pork Expo (WPX) Junior National, is again setting records this year, surpassing last year’s high achievement with 1,812 total entries in the 2011 junior show. Coming this week June 7-10, the WPX Junior National is hosted jointly by the National Junior Swine Association (NJSA) and Team Purebred. The NJSA is an organization for youth ages 21 and under who have an interest in the Duroc, Hampshire, Landrace and Yorkshire breeds of swine, and is a division of the National Swine Registry (NSR), the pedigreed association of the same breeds.

DES MOINES, Iowa – The National Pork Producers Council offers opportunities for learning and networking with a series of business seminars during the 2011 World Pork Expo. These free seminars feature discussions about risk management, pig nutrition and health, and anaerobic manure digestion. Expo-goers will find these business seminars, which are sponsored by five leading companies, in the Varied Industries Building at the Iowa State Fairgrounds on Wednesday, June 8, and Thursday, June 9.
“Producers throughout the world come to World Pork Expo for one reason: to see what’s state-of-the-art in pork production and technology,” says NPPC President Doug Wolf, Lancaster, Wisc., when talking about World Pork Expo’s seminars and trade show. “It’s a chance to hear experts present the latest information, then talk with them face-to-face.”

The NSR World Pork Expo shows and sales will be broadcast live over the Internet via EDJECast.com. The open shows will start at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, June 10, with the Hampshire show, followed by the Duroc, Landrace, Yorkshire and crossbred shows. Sales will start Saturday, June 11 at 9 a.m., with the Hampshires selling first, followed by the Duroc, Landrace, Yorkshire and crossbreds sales. Bidding is not available via the Internet site on the auction sales.
Internet viewers must create an account and register to view at www.edjecast.com. Instructions are available on the website or by calling an EDJE technician at 866.839.3353.

Sara Sell Memorial Donation Gilt out of Toxic 23-5 x Moore Body
Steve Sell and family of Midwest Genetics in Glenwood, Iowa, have graciously donated a crossbred female named Suzanne to the sale at the World Pork Expo in Des Moines, Iowa, on Saturday, June 11. The donation of this gilt is in memory of Sara Sell and all proceeds will be donated to the NJSA.
Suzanne is a Toxic 23-5 and her dam is sired by Moore Body. Toxic 23-5 is a full sibling to Toxic 9-8 and 9-9. Midwest Genetics has previously raised 4G, a class-winning gilt at the Iowa State Fair Crossbred Classic, now owned by Small Town Genetics of Denair, Calif. In only two litters, 4G has produced Paparazzi at Lean Value Sires and Cadet 14-5 at Small Town Genetics. Along with 4G, Midwest Genetics has produced Shasta, the champion junior gilt at the Iowa State Fair Crossbred [ … ]
