Visit to Peters Hampshires and Showpigs at Columbus, Indiana, on Tuesday, March 6. Delbert & Trevor have invested in many top end Hampshire gilts over the past years to develop a solid program. Their sow herd runs deep in quality and it shows in this pig crop… They partnered up with Shaffers’ Gold Rush last summer and purchased Capital Investment, the STC Grand Champion Hampshire Boar. He has sired a good set of pigs for them. A couple weeks ago, Dr. Fix and I had the opportunity to travel to Northern Illinois for a visit with Jim Moest. Jim and his brother, Steve, are owner-operators of High Plains Pork.
In the last year, High Plains Pork has partnered with PureTek Genetics in the use of purebred genetics in a commercial test herd. This partnership is proving to be a win-win-win situation, with High Plains Pork, PureTek Genetics, and National Swine Registry (NSR) all realizing the genetic benefits of collaboration and data sharing between the commercial and purebred industries.

Branden Cole Stennet sold his Champion Hampshire Gilt for a record-setting $37,000. The daughter of the Premier Sire, JLM9 TCG Augusta 18-1, was purchased by Top Cut Genetics, Ind., Jerry McLemore, Okla., and Mike Watson, Ind.
Branden Cole Stennett, of Dublin, Texas, sold the record-selling Hampshire gilt during the Southwest Type Conference in Belton, Texas.

This daughter of JLM9 TCG Augusta 18-1, first won the Hampshire show before selling for $37,000 to Top Cut Genetics, Farmland, Ind., Jerry McLemore, Ninnekah, Okla., and Mike Watson, Mooresville, Ind.
Undefeated in her Hampshire show career, she also garnered Champion Hampshire and Reserve Supreme Breeding Gilt honors at San Antonio Stock Show’s junior show earlier this year.
Congratulations to Branden for presenting a female of this quality, and to Top Cut Genetics, Jerry McLemore and Mike Watson for investing in these elite genetics.
