The weanling pig sift at the 2010 Fall Classic in Duncan, Okla., started Thursday night at 5 p.m., with eight breeds plus crossbreds being sorted in two rings. There were a record 1,470 weanling pigs to be sifted; approximately 420 weanling gilts are slated to sell on Friday night, with a yet to be determined number of weanling males selling on Saturday. NSR CEO Darrell Anderson said the number of weanling pig entries are the highest ever, and the crowd in attendance for the event is the most he has seen in the history of the event.
On Friday morning the breeding swine shows start at 7:30 a.m. with Yorkshire, Hampshire and Duroc boars and gilts and crossbred boars. Friday night the champion female weanling pig prospects will be chosen, followed by the Fabulous Female Sale. NSR Field Representative Michael Lackey welcomes exhibitors and breeders to the NSR Fall Classic, starting today and running through Saturday in Duncan, Okla.
There are 609 exhibitors from 27 different states registerted to show approximately 2,200 weanling pigs and 400 head of breeding boars and gilts during the event.

The 2010 North American International Grand Champion Overall Market Hog was the Medium Weight Crossbred exhibited by Aaron Muegge, Greenfield, Ind.
The North American International Livestock Exposition Swine Department set an all time record in numbers this past Sunday and Monday, Nov. 7-8, with 722 pigs on the grounds for their swine showmanship contest and purebred and crossbred market shows. Junior exhibitors, all required to be members of either the National Junior Swine Association or Team Purebred, numbered 370 and traveled with their pigs from 17 states to Louisville, Ky.
In the Junior Market Swine Show, there were 20 purebred classes, representing eight breeds: Berkshire, Chester White, Duroc, Hampshire, Landrace, Poland China, Spotted, and Yorkshire, and three divisions of crossbred market pigs.
Supreme Champion Overall was selected from the champion of each division following the crossbred show.

Saturday evening marked the 2010 NAILE Barnyard Olympics, co-hosted by the NJSA and Team Purebred, in the swine showring. Fourteen teams, each with five members, competed in four separate events with a final grand champion race at the end of the event.
The evening started off with the egg race where team Foshizzle edged out their competition for the win. The second event challenged the exhibitors’ flexibility as they passed a toilet paper roll over their shoulders and through their legs without breaking the paper. The Whizzy Dizzies took the win in this division. The third event was the feed sack race, where competitors had to hop to the finish line in a feed sack. Team Foshizzle pulled out another “W,” edging them ahead of their competition in the race for the champion drive. The final event was the egg toss, a messy finish to the competition but all the [ … ]
