NJSA Regional Leadership Conference was a Success!

By Cassie Godwin | Published January 2, 2015

The 2014 NJSA Regional Leadership Conference was the largest regional conference we have had yet! On December 6, it was held in Manhattan, Kansas at Kansas State University. NJSA youth ages 12-18 and adults with these members were welcomed by the KSU Staff, the NJSA Junior Board, and the NSR Staff. The Kansas State FFA Officers attended the conference starting the morning with an icebreaker and a little fun. The youth proceeded to learn about Biosecurity from Dr. Joel DeRouchey (KSU) and the Reproduction Tract & A.I. from Hyatt Frobose (KSU PhD student). The parents broke off into another room talking with Dr. Dave Nichols (KSU) about Preparing Kids for College.

Right before lunch, everyone listened to a talk by Kevin Sheehan, Vice President Pork Livestock Procurement, Cargill Inc. “What do you want to be when you grow up?” was the question Mr. Sheehan had for the youth. Some understood showing [ … ]

Ready for Christmas? NJSA Jr Board of Director Hannah Zundel is!

By Cassie Godwin | Published December 4, 2014

The spirit of Christmas seems to rush through your veins once December rolls around. Right after finals the college students return home with their families. Everyone seems to be singing joyful music, watching Christmas movies, and of course prepping for the upcoming holiday. People also don’t forget about the less fortunate as they donate gifts and food for the holiday. This selfless, joyful attitude that is associated with Christmas is what I love most about the holiday season. Even though I do enjoy snow sculpted livestock and selfies with pigs in Santa hats, the spirit that fills the air is [ … ]

Tana Simmons’ Jack-O-Lantern

By Cassie Godwin | Published October 20, 2014

Ahhhh, fall! There is nothing I love more about this season than the changing the leaves, the cooling temperature, and hanging out around the bon fire with my friends. Except for one thing: carving pumpkins! This is one age old tradition I will never become too old for so it may come as no surprise that I have been planning what my Jack-O-Lantern will look like this year for weeks. This year, I am going to carve my puppy’s name in my pumpkin! I just got a new corgi puppy this summer named Trigger and absolutely love him to pieces so it only makes sense that I carve my first pumpkin of the season in his honor. I like to put thinks that are important to me in the faces of my Jack-O-Lanterns so I am always reminded of them when I look at the glowing light! I may even [ … ]
