Chris Hodges has been named the new chief executive office for the National Pork Board. Hodges, currently the senior vice president – business development of Smithfield Farmland, will begin his new role on Feb. 16.
“When I first joined what was then Farmland Industries as a grain division manager, I joined a farmer cooperative,” Hodges says. “Over the years, I have grown to understand the needs and challenges facing pork producers. From product marketing to disease management to sustainability, I look forward to working with the National Pork Board staff and Board to develop the tangible tools and grassroots programs on behalf of America’s pig farmers.”
Hodges brings to the Pork Checkoff decades of in-depth knowledge and innovation in marketing pork to key U.S. food retailers and into international markets. This year came and gone like the speed of light for me, and probably countless others. What do you want to change or do differently in 2015? Everyone that I know has some sort of resolution that they want to accomplish in the upcoming year. Some of the top ten New Year’s Resolutions that I found were that people want to lose weight, volunteer more, or save money. Just maybe I will cut back on the Little Debbie snacks to try to relive my high school basketball form. I could also start saving my money by breaking my McDonald’s Sweet Tea kick, but I have a different resolution that I want to pursue this New Year. The 2014 NJSA Regional Leadership Conference was the largest regional conference we have had yet! On December 6, it was held in Manhattan, Kansas at Kansas State University. NJSA youth ages 12-18 and adults with these members were welcomed by the KSU Staff, the NJSA Junior Board, and the NSR Staff. The Kansas State FFA Officers attended the conference starting the morning with an icebreaker and a little fun. The youth proceeded to learn about Biosecurity from Dr. Joel DeRouchey (KSU) and the Reproduction Tract & A.I. from Hyatt Frobose (KSU PhD student). The parents broke off into another room talking with Dr. Dave Nichols (KSU) about Preparing Kids for College.
