“The Bible”
The binder that my family calls “The Bible” is home to health papers, pedigrees, PQA cards and so much more. This is the first and last thing we check for before leaving the house. Without “The Bible,” I couldn’t make it past check in to even unload let alone make it to the show ring.
Show Box
Show box or treasure chest? After years of showing, my show box is a mobile, mini show barn that never gets unpacked. I don’t know where anything is placed in there but I know after a little digging I’ll find it. From towels to screwdrivers, safety pins to electrolytes, the show box has everything I’ll ever need. Prep like a Pro

Like any sport, preparing your animal for the show ring takes time, patience, and a lot of dedication. Throughout my show career, I’ve found Robert Collier’s quote to be true when it comes to show preparation, “Success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out.” There is no magic show stick, only a lot of practice.
Missouri summers aren’t known for their cool breezes so walking and feeding during the morning when its cool is important to maximize feed efficiency. At my house, pig showing is a family affair, which means I have four siblings to wake up before heading outside for morning chores. After years of this routine, we’ve learned not to speak to one another before either 1) they had coffee before heading out the door or 2) we’ve been outside for at least a half hour. The 2013 World Pork Expo (WPX) is officially under way in Des Moines, Iowa. A record-breaking 2,527 entries poured into the Iowa State Fairgrounds for the 25th anniversary of the WPX. The National Swine Registry staff is eager to start the week off with the World Pork Expo Junior National show, tomorrow.
Below are some candids from around the barn as exhibitors prepare for the upcoming week by unloading and registering their entries.
Registration began at 1 p.m.
Expo enthusiasts of all ages gather for the event.

After exhibitors get settled in they head to the wash rack.
At Expo, feed and water comes first for the pigs.
Teamwork is shown throughout the barn.
